My Tips For Dealing With Stress

I don't handle stress well. I get irritable, emotional, fidgety, break out in spots, consume my weight in chocolate, and about a million other things when I'm stressed or getting worked up. For some people, a trip to the gym helps them to release the tension and stresses of the day. For others, it's getting curled up on the sofa with a good book and a hot chocolate. Don't get me wrong, these things are great for relieving stress, but I personally like to do a few other things to perk myself up and chill myself out.

Depending on what mood I'm in, the tiniest thing can get me stressed out. A lighter not working properly, forgetting about a cup of tea that's gone cold, if the washing machine is being just a bit too loud for me to watch YouTube, I stress out.

My main zone of defence against stress is talking to my mum. I know that talking to someone may seem pretty obvious when you're feeling down or stressed, but my mum is just like my diary. She's my best friend and is always there to impart her years of wisdom onto me. I feel much better after a cup of tea and a long rant with my mum.

Something else I like to do is watch vlogs on YouTube. I find that I'm too restless to sit and watch a film or a TV show, but trawling through videos on the Internet immerses me pretty well, and I can walk around with my phone to stop myself getting fidgety. At the moment, I'm really loving Zoe Sugg's vlogs. I know that a lot of people don't like Zoe for whatever reason, but I personally think she's an inspiration - she created a brand from her bedroom, has her own beauty range, has published 4 books, and is basically just life goals. She's down to earth, and it's really interesting to see how the other half live, especially when they come from such humble beginnings. If I wanted to watch a rich person play rich, I'd watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians.. which I do.. sometimes.

Another way I like to immerse myself is through watching dance videos. I get so pulled in watching amazing dance routines, everything from ballet to street dance crews. I especially love watching the Royal Family crew, and Sorority as well. Check out one of my favourite routines by Sorority below!

Something that I probably have in common with a lot of people in order to de-stress, is to run a nice hot bath, complete with a Lush bath bomb and lots of bubbles. My favourite thing to do is pull up a little table next to the bath, pop a glass of cold water and maybe a bar of chocolate (or something else yummy and nibbly), and set my phone up to either watch YouTube, or listen to music on Spotify. I always naturally find myself wanting to shave my legs and exfoliate in the bath, but I do it pretty slowly and half-assed for a long time while I'm watching videos, so it works out much better than scrambling to shave my legs quickly in the shower.

At the moment, I am loving the Imperial Leather Polynesian Spa bubble cream, it smells absolutely divine and does exactly what it says on the tin - BUBBLES! I'm currently using a mango and coconut scrub, as well as the Baija Gommage Festin Royal Body Scrub - it lathers as you scrub away, and has the most gorgeous caramelised sugar scent. It's packed with shea and honey for super smooth skin, and I just love it.

My bathroom is by no means the nicest room in the house - it looks like the kind of bathroom that you would get murdered in, but when you're surrounded by bubbles and delicious smells, it makes very little difference. One day, I hope to have enough money to buy a bathtub that simultaneously fits my knees and my tatas, but that's nothing but a pipe dream (ha).

Another great way for me to de-stress and perk myself up is to put on one of my favourite playlists, and just go nuts dancing around the kitchen. We have a very narrow, small kitchen, but it makes no difference to me. I will serenade into a wooden spoon and catwalk that shit. Never underestimate music, and always listen to music for the mood you want to be in, not the mood you are. Sometimes it's nice to belt out sad songs when you're sad, but I'd rather be smiling and happy. Wouldn't everyone?

Like I said in my introduction to this post, a simple hot chocolate and a book is a fantastic way to melt your worries away, too. I personally love Cadbury's hot chocolate, but Whittards is my go-to for something a little fancier. If you haven't tried Whittards hot chocolate before, I seriously recommend you try it.
At the moment I'm reading the Harry Potter series, and although I go through phases with reading, I do really enjoy it. I have loads of other books that I want to read, some I've bought recently, some from years ago that I still haven't had a chance to read (or just been too lazy). I can read a whole book in a day, or it might take me a few months. But it's always a good way to distract yourself.

And lastly, blogging. Although writing my blog can stress me out a little (because I'm a perfectionist), it usually entertains me for long enough that I've forgotten what I was originally stressing about. If I get writer's block, I just walk away from the laptop and do something else for 10 minutes. Once I've come back to the computer, I have a slightly different thought stream from before, so I can usually add another paragraph or two. It's so exciting seeing a preview of your finished blog post, especially one you worked hard on and really enjoyed writing. Now that I've gotten back into blogging, I think this will probably be one of my go-to things to de-stress.

And that's basically it. I try to relax as much as possible and keep myself busy and distracted. Other people may wish to write in a diary to get all their negative feelings out - it's different for everyone. How do you deal with stress? I'd love to know!

Ciao for now,

Get To Know Me Tag!

Oh my god guys, I am just having the time of my life!
I'm completely joking, everything is a bit of a mess right now, but who cares! I have to stay positive and do things that make me happy, such as blogging. I know I say I need to blog more a lot but in all honestly, I think I've finally found the motivation to get things moving again.

So, I thought I'd return to blogging with something a bit simple, a get to know me tag! I absolutely love reading these and I don't think I've ever done one before. They are one of my favourite things to read so I may as well give it a go at writing them too!

So, here goes...

1. What is your middle name?
My middle name is Emma, not as terrible as some people's names, but i'm not that keen on it.

2. What was your favourite subject at school?
That's a toughie, I liked a lot of different subjects for different reasons. I was always excited for History, mostly because I had the most incredible teacher (shoutout to Miss Johnson!), and I also really liked drama. I always wanted to be an actress when I was younger. At college my favourite subject was definitely media!

3. What is your favourite drink?.
I never keep a favourite for long, sometimes nothing will be acceptable except a good cup of tea in an old chipped mug, sometimes all I need in a creamy hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, and sometimes I'm scrambling up 60p in order to buy a diet coke from the shop. I recently (I say recently, more like months ago) went to Hubbox with my mum and had the most incredible chocolate maltshake, I think I could have that everyday.

4. What is your favourite song at the moment?
Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out, Lady Leshurr - Queen's Speech 4, Sam Smith - Stay With Me, Sigala - Sweet Lovin', oh lord there's too many!

5. What is your favourite food?
Love me a good old packet of magic stars.

6. What is the last thing you bought?
Depends on what sort of things you're after, today I signed up to Apple Music, yesterday I bought a cinema ticket, some popcorn, some magic stars and some mozzarella sticks (so not worth it) and the day before that I bought some socks for moisturising your feet overnight and a facemask from Lush. Ooh, and a starbucks.

7. Favourite book of all time?
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. I love this book so much, as soon as I finished it I ordered the sequel and read it in one night. It's the perfect easy read to make you feel summery and ugh, its just my fave.

8. Favourite colour?
I like every colour.

9. Do you have any pets?
I have two gorgeous furry friends. Jack, my 13 year old springer spaniel lives with my dad. He's very hyper and ridiculous and we love him to absolute pieces. Unfortunately he has cancer and is quite old, so not as energetic as he once was. I also have a 7 month old kitten called Kiisu who is just the most elegant, gorgeous little girl ever. She loves to lick my nose and chew the corner of my phone a lot.

10. Favourite perfume?
Sweetheart by Ghost. My brother got it for me for my birthday years ago, and I've since repurchased it.

11. Favourite holiday?
I always loved visiting Brighton. I think it's a gorgeous, diverse city which basically has everything I'd ever need. I can't wait to go back and visit one day.

12. Are you married?
I don't think my parents would be overly happy with me getting married at 17 years old!

13. Have you ever been out of the country?
I have indeed! I went on a school trip to Paris when I was 13, and a school trip to Poland when I was 16. I've also been to Scotland and Wales, but they don't count.

14. Do you speak any other languages?
I don't, but I have been using Duolingo to learn French and Dutch! If you haven't heard of Duolingo, it's a fantastic app, completely free, that teaches you different languages. You can set goals of how much you want to learn per day. I'm 2% fluent in French, apparently.

15. How many siblings do you have?
I have two awful smelly big brothers who I love with every fibre of my being. Chris is the oldest, he's 24 this year, and Jamie has not long turned 21! We're all growing up and becoming grumpy adults, fun times. We all live together with my mum and we're a happy little bunch. I also have a step brother and two step sisters.

16. What is your favourite shop?
Boots and Superdrug are awesome, and I quite like Accessorize too.

17. Favourite restaurant?
The Shire, it's a lovely pub/restaurant that does the most incredible carvery ever. We used to go multiple times a year for everyone's birthday.

18. When was the last time you cried?
Yesterday! I wasn't having the brightest of days, unfortunately.

19. Favourite blog?
I love absolutely loads of blogs, but the ones I always come back to are Zoella, Milk Bubble Tea, Ruby Red Roses and Emily Bashforth. All such gorgeous, wonderful girls!

20. Favourite movie?
I've been watching If I Stay a lot over the past few months, it's my comfort movie for when I'm feeling down. Of course, Marley and Me will forever be a staple favourite, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, I have a feeling that I'm really going to enjoy How To Be Single when I go to see it.

21. Favourite TV shows?
I've watched every episode of Friends at least 30 times. That's not even an exaggeration. I'm completely up to date with Pretty Little Liars, and I absolutely LOVED Desperate Housewives. It's so scandalous.

22. PC or Mac?
Maaaaac. I have a laptop at the moment but I really want to save up for a Mac, I just think they're much better and easier to use. Plus, they're pretty.

23. What phone do you have?
I have a space grey iPhone 6.

24.How tall are you?
I am 5'7. Kind of average for a girl I suppose. I'm taller than my mum!

25.Can you cook?
I won't starve, let's just say that. I enjoy baking more than cooking, so I don't tend to cook much.

So that's it! I'd love to know your answers to the questions so make sure you comment or let me know if you write a post like this!
I'll see you all very soon!

I'm Back!

Hello Blogging Community!

It's been a while, eh? About 3 months if I remember correctly, which is way way waaaay too long!

College ended up getting the better of me and I was just too stressed out to do anything, be that blogging or youtube or homework. I am the procrastination queen. However, I recently decided to leave college, simply because I'm not ready for it at this time in my life. I have good AS level grades behind me, and I'm going to reapply for college next year when I feel more comfortable with myself, my life, and what I want to do with it.

The thing I hated about the education system is there was never enough time. When choosing my options for GCSE's, I was focused on mock exams. When choosing my A-Level choices, I was focused on my GCSE exams. Now that I'm meant to be focusing on university, I've realised I'm not doing anything that I'm passionate about. I've simply decided that enough is enough, and I'm going to take my education, my health, and my future into my own hands. I didn't have time to fully figure out what I wanted to do by the time college rolled around, so I picked subjects that I thought I would like. I had no experience with these subjects before, and as you can imagine, they weren't what I expected.

So, my plan is to take the next year by the horns and do as much of what I want to do as possible. That means getting a job (I have an interview tomorrow, woop!), volunteering anytime I can, and really getting into blogging and youtube, plus trying lots of different things. This is going to be the year that I discover myself properly, and just in time for New Year's resolutions!

My inital plan was to do Blogmas this year to fully throw myself back into blogging, but I then thought that might be too much stress all at once, so instead I'm just going to post as regularly as I can. Who knows, I might end up blogging everyday until Christmas, I might not!

I thought this little quote was quite fitting for my situation, and it's completely true. If you're unhappy, you can do something to change it. I thought dropping out of college would mean the end of the world, but I'm already happier and looking forward to going back when I've sorted myself out and planned my future the way I want it.

I can't wait to get back into blogging, I've missed you all so much!

I'll see you very soon!

The Versatile Blogger Award

I was literally so so excited when I got nominated to do this by Erin over at Orchids and Tea, which is an absolutely adorable name if I do say so myself! I've never done anything like this before and I think it's a lovely way for the blogging community to find new blogs and discover who their favourite bloggers like as well. Here's a simple rundown of the rules of the award:
  • Thank the person who gave you this award.
  •  Include a link to their blog.
  •  Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you've recently discovered or follow regularly.
  •  Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award.
  •  Tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.
7 things about me!
  1. I really love rose gold, pink and white. I recently redecorated my bedroom and got new bedsheets and the whole shibang. I love love love it.
  2. I love diet coke. Not because it's healthier (it's not healthy at all) but because I seem to find it less fizzy than regular coke. Weird.
  3. I cannot put lipstick on to save my life. It always goes wonky and makes my lips look weird, which is a massive shame because I think lipstick is amazing. I should probably invest in some good lip liners or just get someone to teach me.
  4. I started my blog as a way to keep myself busy so I didn't just sit in my bedroom all day wasting time. My blog keeps me productive and motivates me to try new things and talk to new people and I'm really enjoying it.
  5. I had my ear pierced at the top, and I accidently let it heal over. Whenever it's cold outside, the place where the piercing used to be is always the coldest. I feel like Harry Potter when Voldemort is around.
  6. I have been published in Young Writers, a competition for young people to share their short stories and poetry, 6 times. I love writing poems and feel like I can really spill my emotions on a page. I have a notebook full of them.
  7. I buy a lot of candles but can rarely bring myself to burn them because a) they're so pretty and b) i'm literally burning money. At the moment I have a little peach and mandarin one on the go but it was only from poundland so I'm not bothered.

I nominate, in no particular order:

So there we have it, my first ever blogger award! I thought this was really fun, and I nominate any of you guys who want to do this too (if that's allowed!).

See you soon!
